David McMinn - What God means to me.

I was pretty content with the way things were and didn't give much consideration to issues of religion, faith, or Christianity. Aged 17 I left home and moved to Glasgow to start University. This gave me the opportunity to make my own decisions independently of my parents. I did most of the things associated with being a student and was kept busy with studies, sport, and a girlfriend. As time wore on I began to consider more the things of the Bible that I learned growing up, but more importantly I started to see sin in my life that I had been blinded to when I was younger. I could see that my thoughts, intentions, actions, and goals were in direct opposition to the perfect standard expected by God. Through this process God convicted me of my sin. I repented of my sin and prayed to God - asking for his forgiveness. Soon after this I was baptised as a public expression of my commitment to follow Jesus Christ.

"I could see that my thoughts, intentions, actions, and goals were in direct opposition to the perfect standard expected by God."

I'm now married, and taking my studies further through a PhD at the University of Strathclyde. Being a Christian hasn't made life any easier, but I have a deep peace and hope in the promises of the Bible that help in difficult times. My wife and I attend an Evangelical church in Glasgow, where the Bible is taught faithfully and the good news of the Gospel shared regularly.

If anything in my story interests you and you want to know more, then I would suggest that you do an Alpha or Christianity Explored Course where you can learn a lot more about being a Christian, but you can also get help if you write to  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. My prayer at the moment is that I can live a life more like Jesus on and off the football field, and share the good news of the Gospel in the process.
